Snowlinux 4 "Frosty" (Ubuntu-based)

Snowlinux 4 (Ubuntu-based) will be called "Frosty" and should be available at the begin of May 2013.

Frosty (origin: English) is pronounced Froh-stiieh. It is of English origin and the meaning of Frosty is similar to "cold". "Frosty" is an attribute to describe the snow, fitting to Snowlinux.

Snowlinux 4 "Frosty" will be based upon Ubuntu 13.04 and will feature the following editions:

  • MATE
  • Cinnamon

Snowlinux 4 Cinnamon & E17 non-PAE are based upon Debian GNU/Linux 7.0 "Wheezy". There are two ISO images available, one with Cinnamon, the other with E17 non-PAE. While the Cinnamon edition is using Linux 3.5, the E17 edition is using Linux 3.2 non-PAE to support older PCs, too. The Cinnamon edition is using Cinnamon 1.6.7 and the E17 edition is using E17.1. There were introduced much new features like snowMount, the Snowlinux mount tool for drives. We changed the default color of our Snowlinux-Metal-Theme from green to blue and updated our Icon set.

Snowlinux 4 E17 is based upon Debian GNU/Linux 7.0 "Wheezy" Stable. It comes along with the Linux kernel 3.2 non-PAE and E17.1. It has installed Firefox 17, Thunderbird 17, Abiword, Audacious, GNOME-MPlayer and Shotwell by default.

 

Life cycle:

Snowlinux 4 "Glacier" is supported until February 2016.

 

Compatibility with Debian:

Snowlinux 4 "Glacier" is 100 % compatible with Debian's Repository.
