New server

in Dollar

in Euro

Thanks to all who have already donated :-)

Slow performance

Due to this massive amount of users (we are really lucky with that) our servers are mostly totally overloaded. That means, the main page, which is on the same server as the ISOs and so on is not available. The little server we're currently providing doesn't have enought power for providing a good service for all users. The main page can not be visited, the ISOs can not be downloaded and the Update Manager (Repository) can not be used anymore if the server is overloaded. We are aware our users want to be up-to-date via the Update Manager and we can not offer this with this server. While the last releases we already tried to catch the traffic by blocking the availability to download other Snowlinux ISOs. And we know it will not help while the upcoming releases.

New servers

This is the reason why we decided to arrange a new server. We are aware how much power the new server has to provide, but we also know how expensive it will be.

Server

We need a machine with the following hardware:

100 GB hard disk

8 GB of memory

unlimited traffic

Costs

A server with these requirements cause an amount of 43 USD per month and 523 USD per year.

Contract term

It only makes sense to be able to pay the server 1 year in advance.

What will happen

What will happen with these people who donated money? The donors will be announced here.

Please help us to pay the new server for one year.

A donation would help a lot.

snowlinux 2.x
1Monday, 11 June 2012 20:29
the old rang
I have installed snowlinux on a system with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, and LinuxMint 12. It is an AMD dual core, 8 gigs ram, on an M68MT-S2P Gigabyte board with 2.5+ Tb disk.

The LiveCD worked with no apparent problems.
There was a reverse of the problem I had with Mint (made main boot (10.04) system disappear) by not showing up in the boot sequence on restart. (Used Boot Recovery to make all show... an SnowLinux showed 2 installs, with Linux Kernels 3.2.23 and 24).

When I got up and running, errors with Xapian kept coming up, to a point of major distraction.

Note: Your main (install) Backgound sucks, as it is too fuzzy, pastel and light with lettering and printing.

I may have let the system report the errors, but, that sequence kept blowing up... (part of distraction).

There were errors in the main load sequence, that went by too fast to be read... but, seemingly, there were related to the Xapian error. (some pipelines, were only thing I caught.)
